What are financial calculators and why do you need them?
A financial calculator is a digital tool that performs complex financial math instantly — helping Indian investors make data-driven decisions about loans, taxes, investments, and retirement. Instead of manually computing EMI formulas or income tax slabs, these calculators give you accurate results in seconds.
Arthavi provides 16 free financial calculators specifically calibrated for India — using RBI-standard EMI formulas, Income Tax Act 2025 slabs, current PPF rates (7.1% p.a.), and 8th Pay Commission HRA rates. All calculators run entirely in your browser — no data is sent to any server.
EMI = [P × R × (1+R)^N] / [(1+R)^N – 1] FV = P × [(1 + r)^n – 1] / r × (1 + r) ₹0–3L: 0% | ₹3–7L: 5% | ₹7–10L: 10% Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common financial calculation questions in India
Arthavi's free EMI calculator lets you calculate monthly EMI for home loan, car loan, personal loan, and education loan — all in one place. It uses the standard EMI formula: EMI = [P × R × (1+R)^N] / [(1+R)^N – 1], where P is principal, R is monthly interest rate, and N is tenure in months. No sign-up needed.
For FY 2025-26 (AY 2026-27), you can choose between the old tax regime (with deductions like 80C, HRA, standard deduction) or the new tax regime (lower slab rates, no deductions). The new regime has slabs: ₹0–3 lakh (0%), ₹3–7 lakh (5%), ₹7–10 lakh (10%), ₹10–12 lakh (15%), ₹12–15 lakh (20%), above ₹15 lakh (30%). Use Arthavi's Income Tax Calculator to compare both regimes instantly.
HRA exemption under Income Tax Act Section 10(13A) is the minimum of: (1) Actual HRA received from employer, (2) 50% of basic salary for metro cities (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai) or 40% for non-metro cities, or (3) Actual rent paid minus 10% of basic salary. Arthavi's HRA calculator computes this automatically.
The PPF (Public Provident Fund) interest rate for Q1 FY 2025-26 is 7.1% per annum, compounded annually. PPF falls in the EEE (Exempt-Exempt-Exempt) category, meaning your contributions (up to ₹1.5 lakh/year), interest earned, and maturity amount are all tax-free.
SIP returns are calculated using the Future Value of Annuity formula: FV = P × [(1 + r)^n – 1] / r × (1 + r), where P is monthly investment, r is monthly return rate (annual rate ÷ 12), and n is number of months. For example, ₹5,000/month at 12% return for 10 years grows to approximately ₹11.6 lakh from ₹6 lakh invested.
At SBI's current home loan rate of ~8.5% per annum, the EMI for ₹20 lakh home loan for 20 years is approximately ₹17,356 per month. Total interest paid over 20 years = ₹21.65 lakh, making total repayment = ₹41.65 lakh. Use Arthavi's Home Loan EMI Calculator with current bank rates.
SIP (Systematic Investment Plan) involves investing a fixed amount monthly, which averages out market volatility through rupee-cost averaging. Lumpsum investing puts all capital at once, which gives higher returns in bull markets but higher risk. For salaried investors, SIP is recommended. For those with a windfall, lumpsum investment in debt funds followed by systematic transfer plans (STP) is advisable.
A common retirement planning rule is the 25x Rule: multiply your expected annual retirement expenses by 25. For example, if you need ₹60,000/month (₹7.2 lakh/year) at retirement, you need a corpus of ₹1.8 crore. This assumes a safe withdrawal rate of 4% per year. Arthavi's Retirement Calculator accounts for inflation and calculates the exact SIP needed to reach your goal.
Simple interest is calculated only on the principal: SI = P × R × T / 100. Compound interest is calculated on principal plus accumulated interest: CI = P × (1 + R/100)^T – P. For example, ₹1 lakh at 10% for 10 years gives ₹1 lakh in simple interest but ₹1.59 lakh in compound interest (annual compounding). Monthly compounding yields even more: ₹1.70 lakh.
Arthavi's GST Calculator helps you determine if a quoted price is GST-inclusive or exclusive. India has four main GST slabs: 5% (essential goods, healthcare), 12% (processed food, computers), 18% (most services, electronics), and 28% (luxury goods, cars, tobacco). For each transaction, GST is split equally as CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST) for intra-state, or IGST for inter-state.
